Happy Easter for Fielding!
Josh
Fielding took to the track last weekend at Nogaro, south France, to continue
his campaign in the French F4 Eurocup Championship. With bad weather expected
to hit the area for most of the weekend, a tough round was predicted for
all the drivers.
Heavy rain hampered Josh’s chances during practice on Saturday which
meant he only had limited time to get familiar with the track on his first
visit. The weather improved slightly on Sunday during the qualifying session,
presenting all the drivers with a challenging damp but drying track, and
Fielding made an excellent start. However, although up to third place
with 10 minutes to go, he was pushed down to eleventh as the track begun
to dry out and those drivers who had previous experience of the Nogaro
circuit prevailed in the closing seconds of the session.
Undeterred by starting low down on the grid, Fielding raced through the
midfield during the first race with some fantastic manoeuvres which were
applauded in the grandstands. He finished ninth place and crossed the
line with a points finish. After the race, Fielding said: ‘I’m
really happy with finishing in the points, and especially with a few of
my overtaking manoeuvres on some of the other guys out there. After yesterday’s
bad practice session, I didn’t think this points finish would be
possible.’
During Josh’s second race, an accident in the midfield put the 21
year-old down to fourteenth position. However, his aggressive and skilful
race craft allowed him to push through the pack during the race to get
up to ninth place again to cross the line in another points winning position.
After finishing both races in the points Josh concluded, ‘Obviously,
this weekend at Nogaro has been a very positive one for me, finishing
in the top ten in both of my races. I’m really pleased with myself
and the car - even after Saturday, I still really enjoyed driving the
car this weekend, especially considering it’s a track I’ve
never raced at before’.
Josh now has time to relax and keep training before his next race at Pau,
on May 22nd. |
